There's an ingredient that works in the shadows, silently, without immediate spectacular effects — yet without it, all the other active ingredients in your routine lose effectiveness.
It's Vitamin E, tocopherol: the silent guardian of the skin. Present in every cell of the human body, it is the first shield against oxidation, the primary ally for regeneration, and the foremost protector of the skin barrier.
What is Vitamin E and how does it work?
Vitamin E is a collective term referring to a group of eight fat-soluble compounds: four tocopherols (α, β, γ, δ) and four tocotrienols. The most biologically active in the skin is alpha-tocopherol — the form that the body preferentially recognizes, utilizes, and concentrates in the stratum corneum and sebum.
Its primary action is antioxidant: it neutralizes free radicals — unstable molecules generated by UV, pollution, oxidative stress — before they can damage cell membranes, DNA, and structural proteins like collagen and elastin. But Vitamin E doesn't stop there:
- Protects and repairs the skin barrier — integrates the lipids of the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
- Anti-inflammatory action — reduces redness, irritation, and skin reactions
- Accelerates cellular regeneration — supports the healing of micro-lesions, superficial scars, and UV damage
- Emollient effect — softens and smooths skin texture
- Photoprotective — does not replace SPF, but reduces oxidative damage induced by UV light
Synergy with Vitamin C: 1+1=10
This is perhaps the most documented synergy in cosmetology. Vitamin C and Vitamin E don't just add their effects; they amplify each other exponentially.
Vitamin C is water-soluble and acts in the aqueous phase of cells. Vitamin E is fat-soluble and acts in lipid membranes. Together, they cover all cellular compartments. But there's more: when Vitamin E oxidizes while neutralizing a free radical, Vitamin C "regenerates" it, returning it to its active form. The result is continuous antioxidant protection, much more effective than either taken individually.
In Divetta Milano products where both appear, this synergy is intentional and scientifically founded.
100% natural, 100% vegan
Vitamin E can be of synthetic origin (dl-alpha-tocopherol) or natural (d-alpha-tocopherol, extracted from vegetable oils). The natural form has up to 2 times greater bioavailability compared to the synthetic form.
In our products, we exclusively use tocopherol of plant origin, extracted from certified sources, without animal derivatives. Vegan, cruelty-free, non-GMO.
The difference from commercial products
Mass-market products often use synthetic dl-alpha-tocopherol (less effective), or they use Vitamin E merely as a formula preservative — in concentrations too low to have any real biological effect on the skin.
How to use it: the correct protocol
Vitamin E is fat-soluble — it works best in rich formulas (creams, oils, oil serums) and is preferably applied in the final phase of the routine, where it can seal and protect.
Morning routine:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Active serum (Vitamin C, HA)
- Cream with Vitamin E — seals and protects
- SPF
Evening routine:
- Double cleanse
- Tone
- Serum
- Cream or oil rich in Vitamin E — night is the ideal time for regeneration
When is it particularly indicated?
- Dry, dehydrated, or compromised barrier skin
- Mature skin or skin with signs of premature aging
- After sun exposure (repairing action)
- Sensitive or reactive skin (anti-inflammatory action)
- In winter, against cold and indoor heating
How long before seeing results?
- After 1-2 weeks: softer, less reactive skin, improved texture
- After 4-6 weeks: visible reduction of redness and irritation, firmer skin
- After 3 months: structural anti-aging action, improved elasticity
When to stop?
Vitamin E does not require breaks. It is a physiological ingredient naturally present in the skin. It can be used all year round, in every season. In rare cases of tocopherol allergy, it may cause contact dermatitis — in that case, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
Our promise
At Divetta Milano, Vitamin E is not a preservative disguised as an active. It is a leading ingredient, in its most bioavailable natural form, in real concentrations, in synergy with Vitamin C and the other active ingredients in the formula.
Because protecting the skin also means protecting it from within — every day, silently, with efficacy.
