Calling it "oil" is technically inaccurate—and this inaccuracy hides its most extraordinary secret.
Jojoba oil is not a triglyceride like all other vegetable oils: it is a liquid wax, composed of long-chain fatty acid esters that do not exist in any other vegetable oil in the world. And this unique structure makes it the most versatile, safest, and smartest ingredient nature has ever produced for skin care.
What Jojoba Oil Really Is
Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is a desert shrub native to Mexico and the American Southwest. Its seeds contain up to 50% liquid wax—a substance the plant produces to protect itself from extreme heat, drought, and UV rays.
Its composition is unique: approximately 97% consists of waxy esters with a molecular structure strikingly similar to human sebum—the natural lipid film that skin produces to protect itself. This structural similarity is the key to everything.
Why It Is So Effective: Total Biocompatibility
Because jojoba's structure mimics that of sebum, the skin recognizes it as "its own" and integrates it without resistance. This means:
- It does not clog pores—unlike conventional oils, it does not form an impermeable film on the surface. It penetrates and integrates into the natural hydrolipidic film.
- Regulates sebum production—signals to the skin that it is already "lubricated," reducing excessive sebum production in oily and combination skin types.
- It is non-comedogenic—comedogenic rating 2/5, among the lowest for vegetable oils.
- Highly stable—thanks to its waxy structure, it does not oxidize easily. Natural shelf-life of 2-5 years.
- Natural antiseptic—contains compounds with antimicrobial properties.
Benefits for Every Skin Type
- Dry skin: deeply nourishes, repairs the skin barrier, reduces transepidermal water loss
- Oily/combination skin: regulates sebum, reduces shine, does not clog pores
- Sensitive/reactive skin: anti-inflammatory, soothing action, reduces redness and irritation
- Mature skin: emollient action, improves elasticity
- Acne-prone skin: antimicrobial properties, non-comedogenic, reduces inflammation
100% Plant-Based, 100% Vegan, Certified Organic
The jojoba we use is extracted by cold pressing from seeds grown using sustainable methods, without pesticides, without chemical solvents. Certified organic, vegan, cruelty-free. It does not contain animal derivatives—unlike many synthetic emollients derived from lanolin or animal squalene.
The Difference with Commercial Products
Mass-market products often use refined jojoba (decolorized and deodorized with chemical processes) which loses some of its bioactive compounds, or they include it in minimal concentrations (< 1%) used as a "marketing ingredient" on the label, mixed with mineral oils or silicones that cancel out its benefits.
How to Use It: The Correct Protocol
Face—Morning Routine:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Active Serum
- 2-3 drops of jojoba or cream/serum containing it—massage in upward circular motions
- SPF
Face—Evening Routine:
- Double cleanse (jojoba is also excellent as a cleansing oil for the first step)
- Tone
- Serum
- Cream or oil with jojoba—seals the night routine
Hair:
- Apply a few drops to dry ends as a leave-in treatment
- Massage into the scalp to regulate sebum production and nourish follicles
How Long Before Seeing Results?
- After 1-3 applications: skin immediately softer and silkier
- After 2 weeks: improved texture, more balanced skin
- After 4-8 weeks: strengthened skin barrier, reduction of redness and irritation
When to Stop?
Jojoba does not require breaks. It is one of the safest ingredients ever. The only contraindication is a very rare allergy to plants of the Simmondsiaceae family. In case of a reaction, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
